Looking at the Week Ahead...
Happy Fri-YAY Everybody,
Just a friendly reminder that the students and staff will only be in school on Monday and Tuesday next week. The office will be closed the remainder of the week for Thanksgiving Break. Please use this break to meet and be with family and friends.
Don’t forget you can follow us on Twitter and Facebook. Please make sure you are members of the correct sites. There were several “unofficial” sites created, and we are trying to inactivate them. We have been posting a lot of pictures of events happening at Harrison Elementary. Feel free to send them out to family and friends. This is a great way to keep up on events at school. We have attached a link to this email with all the Harrison Elementary social media accounts.

Title 1 Family G.L.O.W. Night – Thursday, December 12th
You are invited to the Harrison Elementary Glow Night! This will be an exciting night that will provide families with fun ideas designed to help Grow Learners Over the Winter. We are determined not to allow the winter blues to slow down the progress our students are making each day. The event will take place throughout the building on December 12th from 5:30 – 7:00 pm. There will be door prizes, snacks, photo booths, a Dance Party and a visit from a special guest. Flyers will be sent home shortly after the break.
Inclement Weather Announcements
As winter approaches and the chances for winter weather increase, please make sure your contact information is current in Final Forms. If you are already getting emails, texts and phone calls from us via the School Messenger Mass Notification system, you should be all set to receive weather-related information. You can also check the District website (southwestschools.org) and the official District social media accounts for the most up-to-date, accurate information.
The Holiday Food & Clothing Drive starts the Week of December 9th
For those new to SLSD – this is a 20+ year tradition in which the school’s partner with the City of Harrison to assist those in need locally! Our District goal is over 35K food and clothing items! Last year, we collected over 32K! Let’s again show the community how passionate we are about helping those in need this holiday season! The homeroom class with the most donated items will receive a class pizza party when we come back from the holidays. Students are asked to take all items to their homerooms first to give their teacher a count and then place them in the appropriate labeled boxes on the stage in the cafeteria. More information will be sent home once we come back from Thanksgiving Break.
PTO Santa Shop – Week of December 9th
Once again, the Harrison Elementary School PTO will be sponsoring a Santa Shop for our students to purchase holiday gifts for their friends and family. Please review the schedule below to find the day and time for each classroom. Items in the Santa Shop range from $1.00 up to $10.00. It is suggested that each student come to school, on their shopping day, with a gift list (on the other side of this page). This will help your child with their purchases. Approximate amounts for each gift recipient would also be greatly appreciated. Cash and checks will be accepted. Checks can be made payable to Harrison Elementary PTO. A preliminary schedule has been attached to this email but there are some slight changes coming. Your child’s teacher will let the class know of any switches. We are also in need of adult volunteers to help our little shoppers shop. Please click on the link below to volunteer. There are many different opportunities and times to volunteer.

🛑 **Understanding Bullying** 🛑
Bullying is defined as aggressive behavior that is intentional, involves an imbalance of power, and is repeated over time. It can take many forms, including physical, verbal, and social bullying. Recognizing and identifying bullying is critical because it allows us to address the issue effectively, support those affected, and create a safer school environment for everyone. Let’s work together to foster a culture of kindness and respect! 💙 #AcceptanceMonth #StopBullying
Teachers Acting Silly…
If your child mentioned seeing teachers dressed in wacky outfits or drinking from silly objects this week, don’t worry—we haven’t lost our minds! Our staff enjoyed a fun team-building week to bring some joy and laughter to our school community while making the students question us all week. It’s all part of creating a positive and playful atmosphere for our students!

PTO Planning Meetings
PTO meetings this school year will take place on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30 pm in the school cafeteria. The next PTO meeting is scheduled for this upcoming Monday, November 25th. We hope to see many of you at the meeting.
You can now join PTO. Your small membership fee of $10 helps us provide services for the kids! This does not require you to volunteer or attend meetings. It is all up to you how much you would like to be involved. If you have any questions, please reach out to a board member.
Joining the PTO is not a huge commitment and often looks like 1-3 service hours a year with opportunities in the evenings, during the school day or can be as simple as signing up to send in cookies for an event. Everyone doing a little adds up to a LOT for our kids.

Bus Passes
Due to the number of children riding the bus this year, NO bus passes will be written for students wishing to go home with another student. Please plan for transportation once the students have arrived home. If bus situations change throughout the year, please complete a new bus route information sheet, and submit it to our office to be processed at the District Office.
N*A*M*E*S – Winter is approaching!!
With cooler weather approaching, please make sure your child’s name is printed somewhere on their jackets, hoodies, and coats. Many items look similar. It is also important to have names somewhere inside for identification purposes.
