Social Growth

At HJS, we believe in nurturing well-rounded individuals. This week, our social growth initiatives included:

Safety

The safety of our students is our top priority. Here are some updates and reminders:

  • 🔒 Investing in Safety! ðŸ”’ Over the last few years, we’ve secured grant funding to enhance our safety measures, including a door monitoring system at the high school to prevent propped doors. We’ve also acquired critical resources for use in emergencies, such as trauma kits and reunification supplies. Your child’s safety is our top priority! #SchoolSafetyMonth #SLSD
  • Medication Reminder:
    • For the safety and well-being of all students, medications must be brought to school by a parent or guardian in their original, labeled container. This ensures that the medication is properly identified and administered according to the prescribed instructions. Please refrain from sending medications with your child or in unmarked containers, as this helps us maintain a secure and effective environment for managing student health.

Please remind your child about the importance of following these safety guidelines both at school and at home.

Parent Tip of the Week: Encouraging Student Involvement

As we continue to foster a vibrant and engaging school environment, we want to highlight the importance of student involvement in extracurricular activities. Participation in clubs, sports, and community events provides students with invaluable opportunities to explore their interests, build leadership skills, develop crucial social skills, and create lasting friendships. Research shows that involvement outside the classroom boosts confidence and academic performance. We encourage you to have open conversations with your child about their passions and to explore the diverse activities available at our school. Whether it's joining the robotics club, participating in theater, or trying out for a sports team, every choice contributes to their personal growth and sense of belonging.

Let’s work together to inspire our students to step out of their comfort zones and embrace the many opportunities available to them. Your support plays a crucial role in this journey!

Other ways to be involved are by creating a routine and expectation for your child each night.  This includes them completing their homework, reading, and making education a priority in your home.  Additionally, teens need 8-10 hours of sleep every night which is essential for academic success, physical and emotional health. Tips for better sleep include setting a sleep schedule, creating a relaxing sleep environment, and keeping electronics out of the bed. If your student is struggling to fall asleep consider a relaxing activity like reading or listening to music.
