On a recent visit to Harrison High School, students had the unique opportunity to interact with Congressman Warren Davidson and Mayor Ryan Grubbs as they toured various classrooms and engaged in hands-on learning experiences. Their visit highlighted the school’s commitment to providing students with an advanced, experiential education in subjects such as engineering and manufacturing.
The day began with Congressman Davidson and Mayor Grubbs joining Mr. Deak’s AP Government class, where students had the chance to ask questions about policy, legislation, and government processes. The officials encouraged students to stay informed and engaged in civic matters, reminding them of the impact young voices can have in shaping the future.
Following their time in the AP Government class, Davidson and Grubbs visited the school’s robotics class, where students are immersed in cutting-edge STEM projects led by Mrs. Elsasser. The officials were introduced to some of the ongoing work in the Robotics class, where students are building machines to compete in VEX Robotics competitions. Congressman Davidson and Mayor Grubbs listened as students shared details about the programming and engineering challenges they face in competition, marveling at the students’ problem-solving skills and technical knowledge. The visit highlighted the school's commitment to preparing students for the rapidly advancing fields of engineering and technology.
In the Advanced Manufacturing class, taught by Mr. Kucera, Davidson and Grubbs observed the hands-on learning environment where students develop critical technical skills using state-of-the-art equipment. Students showcased some of the new machinery and tools they’re learning to operate, including precision equipment and industry-grade machines that are typically only accessible at specialized training centers or colleges.
